Camel Derby Game

Here are amusement arcades and entertainment venues across the UK that have a Camel Derby Game (Arabian Derby). Check our listings below to find them!

A Camel Derby, also known an Arabian Derby (UK) or Kentucky Derby (US) is a roll-a-ball race game, where players compete to move their camel-shaped racer across a track by rolling balls into holes. A mainstay in amusement parks and seaside piers for generations. There is even a theme song for theme that is sung in the UK. The game typically features a row of camels (or horses), each associated with a specific player. When the race starts, players roll their balls into the designated holes or slots, their camel moves forward along a track toward the finish line. The faster and more accurately players land their balls into the correct targets, the quicker their camel advances. The first player to reach the finish line wins a prize, making it a fun and competitive game for the whole family. The appeal of the Camel Derby Racer game lies in its simple yet engaging gameplay, making it suitable for all ages. It's often set in a lively environment, where players compete for tickets or prizes, adding an extra layer of excitement. This game is commonly associated with traditional seaside fun.

The short answer is YES! Camel Derby games are still going strong, with hundreds of active installations worldwide, providing hours of entertainment for tourists of all kinds. While some, like the one at Skegness Pier Arcade, have been removed in recent years, new Roll-A-Ball Derby tracks are popping up across the country. The game’s mechanics remain so popular that they’ve inspired many modern ticket redemption machines. One standout example is Derby Day, a four-player ticket redemption arcade machine that takes the classic Camel Racer gameplay and gives it a colourful, interactive upgrade. Players race in front of a large LED screen, and the winners are rewarded with tickets, keeping the spirit of Camel Derby alive in a more modern, exciting way.

Camel Derby games can still be found at many traditional amusement venues across the UK, including piers, arcades, theme parks, and holiday villages. Roll-a-ball races can still be found in many of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK including Blackpool, where one of the larges Camel Derby’s in the world is located at the Coral Island Arcade. There are also roll-a-ball races to be found on the North Pier, Central Pier and South Pier Arcades on the Golden Mile. On the east coast tourists can enjoy an Arabian Derby at the Bottons Pleasure Beach Arcade in Skegness or check out the lovely old Camel Racer signage that is still on the wall in the Skegness Pier Arcade. Lastly there is also a camel racer at the Britannia Pier Arcade in Great Yarmouth, though it may not be there for much longer. We hope to discover more across the UK this summer.
