Felixstowe is known as the UK's largest deep-water container port. Located north the passenger ferry hub of Harwich on the Stour and Orwell Estuaries, it serves as a key maritime gateway with excellent transport and logistical connections across the country. With Felixstowe having good road and rail links from Ipswich, it also doubles up as a popular tourist destination for beachgoers both locally and nationally. The tourist area of Felixstowe offers a charming blend of static caravans, historic hotels and holiday homes, providing a relaxing escape for families looking to unwind from the bustle of inland towns and cities. Like many UK seaside resorts, Felixstowe features both upper and lower cliffs, promenades, and a variety of gardens, parks, and walking paths to explore. The stunning views from these spots are complemented by historic buildings set amidst beautifully maintained gardens and greenery.
Popular attractions are located along Sea Road with the main thoroughfare running parallel to the tourist beach. Most visitors arrive by driving down Bent Hill from the town centre (which is where Palace Bingo and The Arcadian are located) to reach the bustling main strip. Here, they’ll find the iconic Felixstowe Pier, a spacious pedestrian zone, ample parking, and a variety of beachside shops offering holiday essentials, fish and chips, and other dining options. Visitors can choose to park at The Pier end and stroll south along the coastal path, through the beach gardens, or along the pavement on the town side, where the tourist amenities are located. Alternatively, they can drive to the far end of the tourist strip and try to bag one of the limited free on-street parking spots. Starting at the southern end near Martello Park, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll past several unique attractions, including the vibrant Beach Street outdoor entertainment area, home to the fantastic Mannings Arcade. Along the way, ice cream vendors and fish and chip shops line the path, leading to the Forum Amusements Arcade, a distinctive venue housed in a building topped with a blue pyramid. All amusement arcades and entertainment venues in Felixstowe are geared towards arcade ticket redemption and also feature adult casino gaming areas. A little further along beach road, visitors will spot the Fantasia Arcade, located within a large building that also houses bar areas and nightclubs on its upper floors. This marks the final arcade venue along the main strip, although related amusement parks in the area offer a selection of rides and attractions. Continuing north, visitors will pass the leisure centre before reaching the grand Felixstowe Pier Arcade, the largest in town. This impressive venue boasts a fantastic selection of the latest arcade machines and even features Bowlingo lanes.
Felixstowe Beach is a mix of sand and shingle, offering a traditional seaside experience with colourful beach huts (both old and new) lining the promenade. Visitors can enjoy a range of beach attractions, including table tennis tables, promenade gardens, and ample wind-shielded picnic areas, making it a popular spot for families and arcade enthusiasts. So why not explore the range of amusement arcades, casino gaming lounges and bingo halls that this local beach and town have on offer.
