Lowestoft Arcades

The most easternly seaside tourist destination in the UK. Find out about the very best Lowestoft arcades, bingo halls and slots lounges by exploring our review listings below.

Lowestoft is located on the east coast of England at the border of Norfolk and Suffolk. Although part of Suffolk, Lowestoft has more in common with Norwich than Ipswich, being geographically closer. With Great Yarmouth to the north, and Southwold to the South, Lowestoft was once known for its fishing industry. Today, the town has shifted focus to offshore oil, gas, and the wider energy sector. The town is divided by the River Waveney, with the northern beaches featuring caravans, cabins and nature reserves. The south beaches boast a long stretching Victorian promenade overlooking expansive white sandy beaches. Though the layout is unusual, both the town and beach areas offer excellent pedestrian and cycling routes, making it an intriguing place to visit. For amusements enthusiasts there are also some classic Lowestoft arcades to explore!

The town centre and train station are a short walk north of the River Waveney, where visitors can find several casino gaming slots lounges, including Merkur Slots and a large Merkur Bingo Hall (on and near the High Street). The town centres around London Road (both north and south) and it is here where a selection of historic buildings can be admired. On a side note, if visitors head inland along the River Waveney, crossing the three bridges, they will reach Oulton Broad, the area’s secondary tourist hotspot. This scenic destination features boating lakes, parks, restaurants, and pubs. It also houses the Boulevard Arcade, which is part of a children’s amusement park.

The main tourist hub is centred around the southern beaches, stretching from Royal Plain and South Pier to Pakefield. Here, visitors can enjoy parks, gardens, upper and lower promenades, a stunning white sandy beach, and the charming London Road South shopping area. The South Pier Arcade is situated at the mouth of the River Waveney and, despite its name, is actually the more northern of the two piers. Nearby, visitors will find a row of charming seaside food kiosks, a traditional British pub, and a classic fish and chip shop, all facing the East Point Pavilion. From here, a short stroll along the spacious beachfront leads to the Claremont Pier. This pier (which marks the start of the upper promenade) has seen significant restoration in recent years. It now features upper and lower bars, a pirate-themed adventure golf course, food kiosks, a fish & chips restaurant, and the fantastic Claremont Pier Arcade.

Lowestoft boasts a fine selection of beaches on both sides of the River Waveney, each offering something unique. In the south, Pakefield features stony beaches with dunes and grasslands, transitioning into white sandy beaches ideal for swimming, where dogs are restricted part of the year. Further along there are sand and shingle stretches and different rows of beach huts both modern and classic. The northern beaches are more rugged, with higher cliffs, shrubland, and greenery adding to their natural charm. These beaches are highly valued by locals, and visitors will find plenty of free parking to enjoy them at their leisure. So why not check out the info above about the best Lowestoft arcades and explore the diverse local area on a day trip or weekend break.
