Cromer is located around twenty miles north of Norwich on Norfolk's northern coast. It is renowned for its rich fishing heritage and particularly its world-famous Cromer Crab. A favourite seaside holiday destination of many, the town boasts a historic pier and grand Victorian-era hotels and buildings. The town is centred around the impressive church of St Peter & St Paul, where visitors can find a range of local shops and national chain stores. Known as the ‘gem of the Norfolk Coast’ the beaches look up toward tall, imposing upper cliffs that set it apart from other parts of the Norfolk coast. There are Cromer arcades on both the upper and lower tourist areas.
Walking from the upper promenade gardens to New Street, visitors will find the main tourist area with fish & chip shops, food kiosks, and two of the best Cromer arcades: Golden Sands Arcade and Leisureland Arcade. New Street also marries the West Cliff beach access point, which takes visitors to the lower promenade, offering a children’s amusement park, kiosks, and the modern Dunes Arcade. Four miles east, is the neighbouring town of Sheringham which offers more entertainment with Grays Arcade and Carousel Amusements. Arcade enthusiasts will love exploring the local area and find another gem of a classic amusements venue, which is also called Grays Amusements in Mundesley.
The beaches in Cromer offer a pleasant mix of shingle and sand, though they can vanish at high tide. With various access points leading down to the beach, visitors will find plenty to explore along the lower promenade. A walk along the pier reveals the active lifeboat station and local theatre.
