Dunes arcade is located on the lower esplanade between the Cromer Pier and the access lane at West Cliff. The lower ground esplanade area is wide and there are many permanent installations including food kiosks, seating, beach access and even a mini kids fun park. The kids’ rides are all outside facing the coastal breeze, whilst Dunes arcade is inside the building at the end of the fun park that has lovely views of the pier (which is a short stroll away).
Unlike many seaside resorts, Cromer Pier does not have any amusement arcades on it, though there is a varied range of entertainment including a bar, bistro and theatre complex. Whilst vehicles aren’t usually allowed onto the lower esplanade, there are several different access points including stairs for pedestrians, two roads (one being used by tractors pulling up boats from the still thriving fishing industry) and a lift, which can be found at the RNLI Museum on the eastern side of the pier.
Arcade Entrance
The arcade is located in the bright blue building and when the weather is favourable, they open 3 entrances, one on each side so that visitors and passers-by can wander through the arcade and play and peruse freely. The main entrance faces the pier and here one can find a lovely young kiddie rides featuring Lady and the Tramp characters.
Crane Claw Machines
Upon entry visitors are greeted by rows of claw machines along each wall. Here players can enjoy Elaut Giga Claw machines stocked full of fantastic plush toy prizes.
There are rows of the Steven the Seagull (with chips or doughnut) to win, and a full range of Disney and Pokémon characters. There are also some mini crane machines, including the mystery golden egg Find a Key grabber and a Chupa Chups game where you can win lollies.
Coin Pushers
Dunes amusements has several coin pushers including many modern arcade machines and two classics which are Cromptons Carousel coin flippers.
The modern coin pushers all pay out ticket wins and come in all shapes and sizes from circular machines to square four and eight player machines.
Players can find fun modern machines including Sweet Falls, Snakes and Ladders, Justice League and Clockwork Oranges. There is a great range of shelf prizes to be had including sweets and lollies, keychains and toys including branded Pokémon toys to be won directly off the shelf! The coins fall generously here and there are many two pence changer machines dotted around to help keep the fun going.
Classic Arcade Games
Fans of the classic arcade games will love the two player Moto GP motorbike racing game or even the Dead Heat NOS car driving machine. If players still need to settle the score then the Pac-Man Smash arcade air hockey game will help decide who is the champion among friends.
Fairground Games
Dunes arcade has a lovely range of fairground style machines and these are mostly placed around the outside of the venue.
There are three roll-down style machines in a row where players have to roll a tuppenny down the conveyor belt to hit the targets, winning tickets or a chance to play on the upper feature board for big ticket wins.
These are Cops and Robber, Tower of Terror and Bingo King with the latter having a large digital upper feature board that allows player to play bingo games to win massive ticket prizes.
Fans of skee ball will love the Ice Ball machines and if aiming is your game then why not face-off with the Sonic All Stars basketball shooting game or the two player Down the Clown all paying out ticket wins!
Big Ticket Arcade Machines
Bigger is often better and the Dunes entertainment venue can attest to this with a great range including the exciting Treasure Cove game, two Pearl Fisheries machines and the four player Pac-Man Swirl paying out top ticket prizes.
Fans of the wild west will love the two-player arcade shooting game called Wild West Shootout, which also pays out ticket wins. If you were part of the Flappy Birds craze a few years back, then check out the Flying Tickets game which is Flappy Birds on a huge screen with ticket prizes!
Wheel Spinners
