Coney Island Amusement Arcade Scarborough

Arcade Info

Coney Island is a large amusement arcade on Foreshore Road, in the heart of Scarborough’s tourist area opposite South Bay Beach. The venue occupies a remarkable historic building dating back to 1859, when it was built by the Scarborough Public Bath Company as the Seawater Baths. The baths were supplied directly from the sea and featured a large seawater swimming pool, along with Turkish baths and other bathing facilities. They remained in use until 1931, long before the building became the amusement venue it is today.

The building later became associated with the Corrigan family, a long-established Yorkshire fairground family who expanded into seaside amusements and arcades. The family’s amusement heritage in Scarborough dates back to 1946, and the building was known as Corrigan’s Amusements for many years before being renamed Coney Island, taking its name from the famous New York seaside destination. The Corrigan family’s connection with the venue lasted for approaching half a century before the property changed hands in 2008. Today, Coney Island continues the building’s long tradition of seaside entertainment with a great range of arcade games and attractions for the whole family.

We aim to visit the venue again soon to conduct a full review of this fantastic arcade that occupies the building it today.
