Monte Carlo Amusement Arcade is located on the busy Marine Parade in an enviable location on the Southend seafront. With the beach just a stones-throw away, Monte Carlo is just across the road from the Beaches Café & Bistro and other food kiosks selling doughnuts and other seaside staples. Next door to Monte Carlo is another arcade ‘New York New York’, which is also joined internally. There are also popular local pubs next door to both arcades.
Arcade Entrance
The arcade frontage meets the pavement seamlessly, which makes the access ideal for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Outside the front of the venue, visitors can find a great range of claw grabbers and a boxing punch machine.
Coin Pushers
Upon entering, players can find several two pence coin pushers dotted around the front of the arcade and these include both modern and classic machines.
Classic examples include Strictly Dance, Spinning Top and Coronation Street coin pushers.
Modern coin machines with ticket prizes and upper feature boards include Monopoly, Pac-Man, Cop the Loot (Cops and Robbers), Snakes and Ladders and Space Reels.
They also have a Frankenstein-esque coin pusher which had been made from Rainbow Riches, Minecraft, Marvel DC and Disney Frozen. Interesting fusion from the technicians!
Tuppenny falls easily at this arcade, and it is very easy to win coins. They have generous shelf prizes including key chains bouncy balls and sweets & lollies.
Crane Claw Machines
The arcade frontage boasts an impressive array of crane claw machines with over ten machines, all with different plush toy prizes to be won. They also have some hybrid grabber machines inside as well where players can win electricals, ticket bundles (Ticket Dome) and sweets & lollies.
Quality branded plush toy prizes include Pikachu / Pokémon characters, Minions, Spiderman and the full range of Disney teddy bears including Lion King, Lilo & Stitch and many more.
Classic Arcade Games
Players who love classic arcade games with love this entertainment venue as they have a great range of arcade shooting games including The Walking Dead, Big Buck HD, Terminator Salvation and also a Pac Man Smash air hockey table.
For those who enjoy arcade racing games, they have large two-player Sega Outrun arcade games as well as Daytona USA and a two-player Hyper Cross game, which is a snowmobile motorbike style racing game.
Fairground Games
At first patrons may think that there are no fairground style ticket arcade games in the Monte Carlo venue, though they are actually hiding upstairs where the prize shop / ticket window is located.
Upstairs is essentially another large gaming room with its own secondary entrance that can be found on Lucy Road. This upper floor has some unusual machines and some nice examples for fans of fairground games.
Here, players can enjoy a wide range of fairground games including Big Bass Wheel Spinner, Ghostbusters, Down the Clown and Penguin, Crazy Clown and Zombie Outbreak. There is also a licenced Sonic Blast Ball ticket machine here for fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog.
A rare retro arcade machine can also be found upstairs in the form of the brilliant Ghost Catcher coin flipper machine, where players can win tickets by knocking down all the ghosts or having coins fall onto the conveyor belt in the correct place. A very fun two pence per play style game.
The upstairs arcade area also caters to younger players, and they have half-sized machines including a small kids air hockey table and smaller fairground games for pint-sized players.
Ticket Slot Machines
Ticket slots are abundant in Monte Carlo and they have Freddie (Flintstone), Tower of Terror and Pieces of Eight standalone machines upstairs. There is also a nice example of a triple ticket slot machine upstairs called 'Life’s a beach', which is perfect for the beachside location.
£5 Jackpot Fruit Machines
Monte Carlo amusements has a great range of £5 jackpot fruit machines and these including both standalone cabinets and triple whammy machines. Standalone classics include Viz, Star Wars New Hope, Addams Family, Italian Job (remake), Cops and Robbers (Bell Fruit with digital screen) and Deal or No Deal.

Venue Verdict
Monte Carlo is a well-laid out venue with plenty of space for families to enjoy a wide range of arcade machines. Being internally joined to New York New York is ideal as visitors can explore both venues without having to go outside.
