There are two Gilly’s arcade venues on Foreshore Road, and this guide covers the smaller venue, Casino Amusements. Despite the name, this is a traditional family arcade without a dedicated high-roller gaming area. Google Maps appears to have the two venue names reversed, as the high-roller adult gaming area is actually located at the other Gilly’s venue just down the road.
This smaller arcade should not be overlooked, however, as it has a good selection of fun and interesting machines packed into a more compact space. It also has a classic seaside arcade atmosphere, dimly lit with patterned carpets and glowing signage creating a traditional seafront feel.
The entrance and main arcade floor are flat, apart from the fruit machine area, making most of the venue wheelchair-friendly.
Kids Arcade Games
Outside the venue, visitors can find fun kiddie rides including a fire truck, while mini claw machines just inside are perfect for younger players. Step stools are also available to help smaller children reach the larger machines, giving them the chance to enjoy more of the arcade.
Claw Machines
This amusements venue has a solid selection of claw machines, including E-Claw, Elaut EX1s, Find-a-Key, Prize Every Time and Skill Cut Winner. Younger players also have a Toy Box crane, while the Elaut Cash Casino is a particularly rare find these days.
The crane games are stocked with a great selection of branded plush prizes, including Steven the Seagull, Monsters and various other Disney characters.
Coin Pushers
Gilly’s Casino has a fun selection of classic 2p machines, including Hippodrome, Coronation Street, Minions, Snakes & Ladders, It’s a Cracker and Rollercoaster, all packed with coins and fun shelf prizes.
There are also two Pac-Man Ball hybrid coin pushers, plus the rarely seen Casino Winner, all from Namco and featuring similar gameplay with an upper feature game.
Several change machines are also dotted around the venue, making it easy to keep the coins flowing for uninterrupted play.
Classic Arcade Games
Alongside the classics already mentioned, there are several other gems for fans of arcade history, including an LAI Lighthouse stacker and two Whittakers Greedy Gobs roll-down games, now around 50 years old.
There is also the rarely seen Joker vs Batman air hockey table, featuring the same multi-puck gameplay as Pac-Man Smash, plus another hockey table in the rear section. A two-player Snocross Winter X-Games racing machine adds something different, putting players behind the controls of snowmobiles.
For more modern instant-win fun, Rocket Launch and Electrocoin’s Big Wheel are both wheel spinner games offering players the chance to win prizes.
Fruit Machines
One of the standout features of this arcade is its large collection of low-stakes fruit machines, spanning the late 1990s and early 2000s through to more modern examples. Combined with old-school carpets, décor and even a traditional change kiosk sign, the venue has a genuine retro arcade feel that takes you back to the heyday of these machines.
Standalone £5 jackpot fruit machines include Monopoly, Deal or No Deal, Pink Panther, Bullseye and Super Line Up, alongside a £50 jackpot Skill Ball Zingy and three Adders & Ladders machines sharing a Vivid community upper Flutterbox, a particularly unusual find.
The selection includes triple-row machines with upper feature games such as Bullion Bars, Thunderball, Batman Begins, Party Time and Golden Winner. As mentioned before, Gilly’s Casino focuses on £5 fruities and does not have a high-roller slots lounge as this is located at the other Gilly’s Amusements venue nearby.
Venue Verdict
Although slightly smaller than the other Gilly’s venue, this arcade packs in plenty of variety, with fun games for younger players alongside a particularly strong selection of rare and classic machines. The extensive line-up of low-stakes fruit machines, is a real highlight for anyone who enjoys spinning reels from the days of seaside arcades gone by.
With its traditional décor, vintage atmosphere and unusual machines, Gilly’s Casino feels like a genuine throwback to the 1990s arcade experience. It is a great choice for families wanting some fun games for children while adults can enjoy a nostalgic trip down memory lane, making it well worth a visit when exploring Scarborough’s seafront.
