Henry Marshalls arcade is located in the heart of Scarborough’s tourist area on Foreshore Road, directly opposite the West Pier and Scarborough Harbour. Its central seafront location puts it close to the RNLI lifeboat station, public toilets and the main route into town along Eastborough.
The venue catches the eye with bold, fairground-style signage, while a front-facing food kiosk adds to the traditional seaside feel with hotdogs, burgers, cold drinks, candy floss and other familiar treats. The frontage has a small selection of claw machines as there is a busy pedestrian crossing directly outside limiting space. The entrance has a fairly large step, so wheelchair users may need assistance to enter the venue.
Claw Machines
At the front of the venue is a great selection of claw machines, including a row of classic E-Claws and smaller Prize Every Time games, allowing players to enjoy the fun until they win a prize. The centrepiece is the large High Five crane, featuring five claws that drop simultaneously for five chances to grab a prize, while classic Elaut EX1 grabbers can be found towards the rear.
All the claw games have a great selection of plush prizes, including popular Steven the Seagull teddies and branded characters such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Deadpool and more.
Kids Arcade Games
The arcade has plenty of step stools for younger children, while some coin machines have built-in steps so smaller players can enjoy the pushers alongside their parents. There are also several child-friendly games, including the two-player Pirates Hook water shooter and a fun Minions whack-a-mole-style game.
A Find-a-Key mini claw offers the chance to win golden eggs, some of which may contain a key to open one of the instant-win prize lockers.
Coin Pushers
Henry Marshalls Amusements has a strong selection of coin pushers, with rows of popular 2p games packed with coins and shelf prizes. Titles include Pic-N-Mix, The Simpsons Donut Daze, Snakes & Ladders, It’s a Cracker and Ice Cream, with prizes ranging from toys and mini plushies to other fun seaside souvenirs.
Classic Arcade Games
There are also a few classic arcade attractions, including an AirFX air hockey table, Skill Cut Barber and Key Master, alongside a kids Sonic All-Stars basketball game. The selection offers some variety beyond the main claw and coin pusher line-up, with options for both adults and younger players.
They also have a couple of WinFall Revolution wheel spinner games for fans of spinner-style prize games and instant-win fun. There does not appear to be any ticket arcade games at this amusement arcade, keeping the experience focused on traditional arcade games rather than playing to get tickets.
VR Games
Henry Marshalls Arcade also has a two-player VR arcade game experience, offering a choice of virtual adventures including rollercoasters and river rapids. It provides a fun modern attraction alongside the arcade’s more traditional games.
Fruit Machines
To the rear of the arcade is a good selection of £5 jackpot fruit machines, including triple-row Rainbow Riches and Batman Begins machines with upper feature games. There are also several standalone machines, including a Barcrest Rainbow Riches and a selection of low boys such as Lady Luck Around the Clock, Tuppenny Nudger and Fair Games’ Timeless X Cash.
For fans of quick-draw bingo, there are also two Skill Ball Deluxe machines, two Skill Ball Zingy machines and Bongo Burnout, all offering £50 jackpots. There does not appear to be a separate adult gaming or high-roller slots area at this venue.
Venue Verdict
Henry Marshalls is a fun, compact seaside arcade with plenty to enjoy, particularly for fans of claw machines, 2p coin pushers and traditional low-stakes fruit machines. The strong selection of plush prizes and child-friendly games also gives younger visitors plenty to discover, while the selection of classic machines keeps the experience rooted in traditional seaside arcade fun.
Keeping the entertainment simple is part of what makes traditional seaside arcades so enjoyable, and Henry Marshalls is a great little venue to pop into while exploring Scarborough’s seafront.
