Jimmy Corrigan’s Penny Arcade in Scarborough has been entertaining visitors since the 1960s, with the Corrigan family name synonymous with seaside amusements and entertainment across Yorkshire for decades. The venue is located on the beachfront along Sandside, just north of the West Pier Harbour wall, making it a convenient stop while exploring this end of the seafront. With plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, it is also well placed for visitors walking towards Luna Park or Scarborough Castle.

Aptly named Penny Arcade, this venue has a nostalgic old-school feel that captures the spirit of traditional seaside amusements. However, the name refers to the classic arcade experience rather than actually having playable vintage penny machines. Classic décor, patterned carpets and glowing signage add to the authentic atmosphere.

Inside, the focus is on familiar favourites, including kiddie rides, claw machines, coin pushers and fruit machines, alongside a traditional change kiosk and numerous 2p change machines for convenience. The wide, step-free entrance also provides easy wheelchair access.

Kids Arcade Games

At the front of the venue is a selection of claw machines and kiddie rides, including a fun Peppa Pig bus and an eye-catching two-seater horse ride, perfect for siblings or friends and a great photo opportunity.

The claw machines at the front include a range of Prize Every Time-style machines, ideal for children who want to be sure of taking home a prize.

Inside, the outer walls are lined with large Elaut EX1s and Maxx Grab claw machines, filled with quality plush prizes including Highland Cows, Sonic the Hedgehog, Fast Food Otters and Disney characters. At the time of visiting, some of the larger crane games were just 50p per play or three for £1, offering good value.

This is where Penny Arcade really shines, with rows of quality seaside 2p machines and coin pushers offering players the chance to build up stacks of coins and win a great selection of shelf prizes. Prizes include toys, keychains, mini plushies, sweets and lollies.

Classic coin pushers include Snakes & Ladders, Pac-Man, Space Reels and It’s a Cracker, alongside a beautiful pair of Elvis-branded hybrid coin pushers similar to Namco’s Pac-Man Ball.   

Fruit Machines

A large part of the venue lineup is dedicated to classic British low-stakes fruit machines, including triple-row titles such as Adders & Ladders, two Bullion Bars, Party Time and Electrocoin’s Oxo Super Reels.

Standalone fruit machines include Super Line Up and Adders & Ladders, alongside a row of five Skill Ball Zingy machines, each with a £50 jackpot. There is no high-roller slots lounge at this venue, keeping the focus firmly on low-stakes play.
