Tower Cinema is a historic cinema building with a two-screen cinema and café / food kiosk upstairs, with the ground floor being home to the amusement arcade. It is located in a prominent position near the corner of Lumley Road and Grand Parade, close to the Skegness Clocktower.
The building was originally a theatre, though sadly destroyed during WW2 and rebuilt in its current format. The layout of the amusement arcade is a large rectangular venue with the adult slots lounge at the very rear of the ground floor. Whilst the arcade provides wheelchair access, there is no lift or disabled access upstairs to the cinema and café areas.
Arcade Entrance
Opening onto a large pedestrian frontage, Tower Cinema has a covered foyer area, where passing visitors can stop to enjoy a wide range of crane claw grabber machines and young kiddie rides for small children.
Coin Pushers
The coin pushers are set out into two large rows in the middle of the amusements and whilst there is no ticket redemption system at this venue, they offer generous shelf prizes and the tuppences fall generously.
Players can enjoy both modern and classic circular and rectangular coin pushers. Modern coin pushers include Deal or No Deal, Sweet Falls, Lady Bug, Snakes and Ladders, Looney Tunes and Rainbow Riches. Classic arcade and sci-fi fans will enjoy the Star Trek circular coin pusher at the front of the venue.
Crane Claw Machines
The standout attractions at this amusements venue is range of unique crane and claw machines. Enjoy testing luck and skill with claw grabbers? Then the Tower Cinema Arcade should not be overlooked. In the front foyer of the venue patrons can find a great range of classic claw machines including Maxx-Grab, Elaut EX-1s and Cosmic Crane.
There is a huge range of branded plush toy prizes on offer, and these come in all shapes and sizes. Fan favourites include Pikachu, Steven the Seagull, Beaver Bear, Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh and superhero bobble heads.
Inside the front of the arcade are even more claw machines and these are in the form of Catching Duck Fun time claw machines, which are available to play in all different sizes. They have large classic machines for a pound a play, with medium sizes, all the way down to mini claw grabbers at twenty pence per play – perfect for pint-sized players. These machines are from Wakee, a leading gift machine manufacturer coming out of China and a great to see in the UK!
The Catching Duck claw grabber machines also have a great range of prizes available, and these include mini branded plush keychains, headphones, mystery loot boxes and lucky golden eggs, where the player has a chance to find a key to one of the prize lockers at the bottom of the machine.
Classic Arcade Games
Tower Cinema amusements has no shortage of classic arcade machines and these include two air hockey tables and the Walking Dead Raw Thrills shoot-em-up. There is a large selection of arcade racing games and these include Mario Kart DX, Cruise ‘n’ Blast, Moto GP, Storm Racer Deluxe and Typhoon Racer.
Fairground Arcade Machines
Fans of arcade fairground games will love the two-player Shootout basketball arcade game and also the Sega Shoot It Win It arcade machine, where players have to shoot the targets to win the associated prizes. There is also a Lane Master two-player bowling game, where friends can see who has the best bowling aim on this virtual alley.
Big Arcade Machines
There are some great larger-scale ticket arcade games in this entertainment venue, and these include a two-player Space Invaders machine, Firefighters Squad and a two-player Demolition King machine, where players have to throw a wrecking ball at the building targets to level-up.
Embracing VR
Patrons can also enjoy several of the latest modern VR machines, which come with a wide range of different games and experiences. In the middle of the venue is a very large six-seater machine called VR Starship, which is like a roller coaster cart that moves with the experience of the virtual reality game chosen. With there being no ticket redemption system in this arcade, there are no ticket slot machines available to play, though this is made up for by a huge selection of both fruit and slot machines. The Tower Cinema Amusements really is an interesting arcade and the Cinema and buildings history is fun to explore alongside playing the arcade machines. They have a unique range of claw machines having many machines that are popular in Asian countries that you do not see so much in the UK.
They also have a great range of coin pushers and cutting-edge VR games, perfect for the whole family. An absolute must-visit for any day trip or extended holiday to the Skegness area.
