The Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach needs little introduction, having been a major part of the seaside resort for more than one hundred years. Sitting proudly at the southern end of the Golden Mile near the Britannia Monument, it remains one of the town’s most iconic attractions. It is also home to the UK’s last traditional scenic wooden roller coaster, the jewel in the crown that continues to attract visitors and theme park enthusiasts from across the world.
There is plenty of parking around South Beach Parade, and the beach train also runs visitors from the north and central parts of Great Yarmouth’s Golden Mile directly to the Pleasure Beach entrance.
The Pleasure Beach now operates a turnstile entry system, so access is no longer free for non-riders. That is easily solved for arcade fans with a £1 day pass card from the kiosk just outside the main entrance. Ride credits can easily be added to the card as visitors explore the park and choose which rides to go on.
Nearby is a beachside Premier Inn hotel, along with the large open space where the much-loved Log Flume once stood. Inside, the park captures everything a classic seaside amusement park should feel like, with traditional rides, sweet treats and attractions for all ages. The atmosphere is lively, energetic and family-friendly throughout, and well worth the small entrance fee.
Upon entering Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach from the main entrance, visitors will find two amusement arcades within the roadside buildings - Fun Palace Arcade and Carousel Amusements.
There are also several other amusements across the park, including claw machine kiosks, punch machines, a Camel Derby Racer and an arcade shooting gallery, along with plenty of traditional sideshows. Both arcades offer a good mix of vintage favourites, retro machines and modern arcade games.
Kids Arcade Games
Both arcades offer a great range of games for children, including water blasters, mini claw machines and several kiddie rides such as spaceships, teacups and even a fitting mini lifeboat. There is also a dancing Sooty Show machine, which entertains younger visitors and gives out a prize every time.
Claw Machines
There is a great range of claw machines across both arcades and the outside kiosks, with quality plush prizes including Mario, Toy Story and Simpsons characters. The line-up includes Catching Duck, Elaut claw machines, Maxx Grab and instant-win favourites such as Skill Cut Winner and Key Master. There is also a Space Shuttle machine similar to the popular Win Fall Revolution game.
Coin Pushers
There are no ticket coin pushers here, though both arcades make up for it with a great range of classic and rarer coin pushers packed with colourful shelf prizes. These include circular favourites such as Star Trek, Coronation Street, Helter Skelter, Snakes and Ladders, Around the World, Hippodrome and more, along with coin flippers including Cromptons Carousel and Scenic Railway.
Carousel Amusements, which is the larger of the two arcades, also has some bigger coin pushers including Hot Dog, Supersonic and Noble Knight, though our favourite is found inside Fun Palace Arcade - a half-size Bionic Bunch coin pusher that is perfect for children and a lovely little machine to see out in the wild.
Classic Arcade Games
Inside both arcades they have a two-player Sonic AllStars basketball game and Sonic Allstars Air Hockey Table. Classic arcade fans will enjoy the Stacker and Lighthouse games from LAI, over twenty years old now, yet still going strong.
The Carousel Amusements also has the legendary Zoltar Speaks fortune teller machine for those in need of guidance and a Legends Spark arcade racing game and several arcade punch machines found at the entrances.
Fairground Games
Outside the Fun Palace Arcade is a dedicated arcade shooting gallery called Hill Billy Shootout and at 50p per game with up to six players, this certainly offers a good value activity for the whole family. Inside the Carousel Arcade there is also a Wild West Shootout arcade machine, for those who prefer the modern equivalent.
Walking further south from the Carousel Arcade, visitors can also find the classic fairground sideshows, which include a classic camel derby game called Rodeo Derby Racing and other classics like Hook-a-Duck and Tin Can Alley.
Fruit Machines
Fans of early 2000s £5 jackpot fruit machines will find a strong selection of classic standalone games, including Band of Gold, Pots of Luck, Quality Streak, Cluedo, Yabba Dabba Darts, King Ker Ching and Round the Bend, among others.
There are also several triple-row classics such as Rainbow Riches, Party Time, Bullion Bars, Hokey Cokey and Monopoly. Skill Ball Zingy machines are also dotted throughout both arcades.
Slots Lounge
Both Pleasure Beach Amusement Arcades have small adult gaming areas featuring a mix of mechanical fruit machines and modern digital terminals with big jackpots of £100. Classic machines include an arch-top Bar X Sevens and video poker, alongside modern titles such as a triple-row Emoji £100 jackpot machine with an upper feature board. There is also a customer toilet just around the corner of the slots lounge which is convenient for extended play.
Venue Verdict
Today, Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach feels energetic, fun and exactly what a trip to the seaside should deliver. The mix of classic rides and sideshows creates a nostalgic fairground atmosphere that resonates across generations.
Both the Carousel and Fun Palace Arcades complement the wider park experience with a strong selection of traditional and contemporary machines. Fruit machine enthusiasts will discover long-forgotten titles, while families can drift through the arcades between rides or take a break when the sun is at its strongest.
The Fun Card system is simple and accessible, and while not essential for the arcades themselves, it offers a flexible way to explore rides as they are discovered. For arcade enthusiasts, the £1 entry offers clear value given the range of machines on offer, while the Pleasure Beach remains a true landmark of British seaside heritage.
